We’re back, book lovers! After a summer break, Brunch Book Club returns this September with a powerful, moving read and a delicious new brunch spot.
We’ll begin the day with our guided online discussion of The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, a story of resilience, sacrifice, and the untold power of women during WWII. With your reading guide and curated discussion questions, we’ll dive into this unforgettable novel together in our safe, welcoming space.
Then, it’s time for tacos and margaritas! We’ll be heading to Taquiza in Peckham, a hidden gem tucked inside The Carpet Shop nightclub under the railway arches of Rye Lane. Run by chef Sam Tarneberg and his partner, Taquiza brings authentic Mexican flavours to London with bold tacos, sharing plates, and a bottomless margarita experience that’s not to be missed. From 24-hour beef cheek to jackfruit tinga tostadas, coconut mushroom tacos to sweetcorn esquites, this is brunch with a fiery, flavourful twist.
The whole table must participate in bottomless but Taquiza offer a non-alcoholic option for £20 per person, which includes mocktails, soft drinks, and sodas. For those off the wagon, bottomless is £35 per person and includes unlimited margaritas and beer. Food is priced at £15 per person, which includes:
One starter
Two tacos
Come celebrate the return of Brunch Book Club with community, conversation, and a margarita (or three). We’ve missed you — and we can’t wait to be back together again.

Taquiza
Tucked beneath the railway arches just off Rye Lane, Taquiza is a vibrant Mexican restaurant and taco bar set within Peckham favourite, The Carpet Shop. Run by chef Sam Tarneberg and his partner, Taquiza is rooted in years of experience spent in both London’s kitchens and Mexico itself — from top restaurants to a street-food stall in Mexico City.
The menu is a celebration of bold, authentic flavours, designed for sharing and savouring. Think jackfruit tinga tostadas, roasted sweetcorn esquites drizzled with sauces, and fried chicken wings with pineapple habanero hot sauce. Of course, the stars of the show are the tacos — from 24-hour beef cheek with salsa roja and crispy onions, to green chilli pork belly castacan, coconut enoki mushrooms with jalapeño pico, and crispy salt and pepper squid with house hot sauce. Each one is served on fresh corn tortillas, with spice levels that stay true to their Mexican roots (don’t be shy about letting the team know your heat preference!).
With its buzzing atmosphere, colourful plates, and endless margaritas, Taquiza is the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of books, brunch, and brilliant conversation.
Stag Dance by Torrey Peters
Soon to be a major motion picture, Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale has captured the hearts of millions of readers becoming a number one bestseller across the world. It is a heart-breakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the endurance of women.
'I always thought it was what I wanted: to be loved and admired. Now I think perhaps I’d like to be known'
This story is about what it was like to be a woman during World War II, when women’s stories were all too often forgotten or overlooked . . . Vianne and Isabelle Mauriac are two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals and passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path towards survival, love and freedom in war-torn France.
It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.
