Special Event: Open, Heaven

  • Molly Mc's 96 Isabella Street London, England, SE1 8DD United Kingdom (map)

For our next special Brunch Book Club event, we’ll be reading Open, Heaven by Seán Hewitt, A beautifully written, quietly powerful novel about first love, longing, and the moments that stay with us long after they pass.

This is a tender, emotionally rich book that invites slow reading and thoughtful conversation. It explores desire, vulnerability, and the uncertainty of loving someone when you’re still figuring out who you are and it’s perfect for those who enjoy books that linger.

We’ll begin with our discussion online, before meeting in person for brunch at Molly Mc’s, Southwark — what? An Irish bar for an Irish book? Ground-breaking. We joke! This lively Irish bar is known for great atmosphere, music, big, welcoming energy and bottomless Guinness, yes you read that right! Expect thoughtful conversation, plenty of warmth, and the kind of connection Brunch Book Club is known for.

With just 14 places available, this is an intentionally small event designed to keep things relaxed, personal, and lovely.

See you at brunch! 🥂📚🥑

Molly Mc’s, Southwark

At Molly Mc’s, you’re not just walking into a pub — you’re stepping into a story that started nearly a century ago.

Welcome to the brunch where the craic is absolutely off the charts and the vibes are wilder than a Bank Holiday in Temple Bar. It’s brunch – but Irish. Which means brunch – but funnier, louder, and better, where the Guinness flows like poetry.

Priced at £45 per person, enjoy 90 minutes of bottomless drinks INCLUDING GUINNESS and a Thai dish plus our infamous live band bringing the best trad tunes and commercial hits done the Irish way. Think the soundtrack to the best time of your life meets that “diddly diddly” magic.

A bottomless brunch guaranteed to be a little bit trad, a little bit rave and A LOT bit Paddy. Massive chorus singalongs, big arm around your mate energy and the only thing more Irish than the music… is the volume it’s sung at. By 2:15pm you’ll swear you’re in Galway.

Open, Heaven by Seán Hewitt

On the cusp of adulthood, James dreams of another life far away from his small village. As he contends with the expectations of his family, his burgeoning desire – an ache for autonomy, tenderness and sex – threatens to unravel his shy exterior.

Then he meets Luke. Unkempt and handsome, charismatic and impulsive, he has been sent to live with his aunt and uncle on a nearby farm. Luke comes with a reputation for danger, but underneath his bravado lie anxieties and hopes of his own.

With the passing seasons, the two teenagers grow closer and the bond that emerges between them transforms their lives. James falls deeply for Luke, yet he is never sure of Luke’s true feelings. And as the end of summer nears, he has a choice to make – will he risk everything for the possibility of love?
